Round Bakehouse
A moment to unwind in the city.
Situated in the Sun Road Nakanohashi shopping street in Ojima, Koto Ward, Round Bakehouse bakes springy round loaves with domestic wheat and cane sugar, alongside AOP French butter croissants and diverse savoury breads.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Lining the shelves at Round Bakehouse, located in the Sun Road Nakanohashi shopping arcade in Koto Ward's Ojima district, are loaves and pastries so tender they yield gently to the touch. Baked single-handedly by the owner, the breads rely primarily on domestic Japanese wheat and the yudane method—pre-gelatinizing flour with hot water to lock in moisture—resulting in an exceptionally springy, chewy crumb.
The bakery's signature cylindrical round loaves combine 100 percent domestic wheat with cane sugar for a gentle sweetness and an evenly fine crumb unique to their shape. They stay soft and moist even when eaten plain, and come in varied flavours kneaded into the dough, including aromatic maple walnut, sweet potato, and rustic low-sugar tsubuan (chunky sweet red bean paste). Lightly toasted, the crust turns crisp, making a satisfying contrast with the tender interior.
Alongside the round loaves, croissants made with French AOP butter and baked using the shop's own heat profile draw steady interest. Light, crisp layers release the rich aroma of butter without feeling heavy. The assortment also extends from sweet to meal-ready savoury items, including freshly fried curry buns, mentaiko baguettes baked crisp at high temperatures, and brown rice milk buns filled with house-made buttermilk cream.
The shop operates on a purely takeaway basis, with fresh batches continually appearing on the counter throughout the day. It opens from 9:45 to 20:00 every day except Tuesdays, and accepts a variety of cashless options, including transit IC cards, QR-code payment apps, and credit cards. It is a reliable neighbourhood stop whether picking up a morning loaf or grabbing a quick snack for the afternoon.
